Bobby Thomas: Bio

In 1994 I picked up my first guitar, not expecting to do much more than play ‘Mary Had A Little Lamb’ or ‘Jingle Bells’ with it. Since then, I have been a fortunate soul who has been able to pour out his heart to God in the quiet of a closed bedroom with the help of a six string. Largely self-taught because of my impatience, but fueled by a desire to write and play songs that would help others see the light of God, I began my journey as a songwriter independently. Aside from a few brief stints of playing with other musicians or leading worship for youth groups and church services, I have always performed my songs solo, though I often imagine in my mind’s ear what each song would sound like were they orchestrated to a fuller degree.

I admit that I have been cautious about moving forward with music in a more overt sense for fear of how it might distort its real purpose. This isn’t about being a celebrity for me and I hope it never will be. I am only at this stage with this project because of the constant encouragement and motivation that I have received from the many who have listened and experienced some ministry as a result of how God used a song I wrote here or there. I would be wiling to devote a larger portion of my life’s work to music, but God has been faithful to lead me away from my own dreams and back to my current responsibilities, where He desires for me to remain content until I receive my next set of marching orders, as it were.

The music you will hear on this project was written by myself between 1998 and 2007. They are a selection of my songs, chosen because they are among the most complete in form and thought. I could try to articulate the sentiments and spirit of each one and explain what message I was trying to send via this project as a whole, but I resist that urge. I also hope that the lyrics achieve their intended purpose and clearly communicate to you, the listener. I would be happy to know you were able to absorb not only the melody but the message of each track and find them encouraging and helpful. Each song is a reflection of my heart at one point in time, whether it be a recollection on convicting truths, a musical prayer, or the response to some emotionally triggering experience. You will hear where I have been and how my heart has or has longed to respond to God and to what He has brought into my life. I hope that the thoughts and music generated by my discovery of God and His kingdom as He reveals it to me brings you hope and joy mixed with sobriety and conviction.

It would be most encouraging to hear about any response you may have to any song in particular. If you so desire to communicate any thoughts you have about my music, just send me an email!
